Career In 1994 he gave up his architectural career in pursuit of his real passion and turned into a full time filmmaker. He worked on many path breaking commercials and videos of that time and also directed a series of a television programmes based on advertising and marketing called The Big Idea. Subsequently, Asim co-directed a few advertising assignments with another director, Saqib Malik who left his job at a local advertising agency at that time to join Asim. As a director duo, their first break came with the music video for the hit single, Mr. Fraudiye by the band Awaz. Together they worked for two years after which they decided to split and went their separate ways. In 1996, Asim started his own production company, The Vision Factory. During that time he directed one of his famous music video for the single “Sayonee” for the band Junoon which became a huge success in South Asia and the Middle East, shooting to the top of all the Asian charts, and staying at no. 1 on both Channel V and MTV Asia for over eight weeks. As an advertising film director he has worked with every major client and leading advertising agency in the country and has also done numerous assignments abroad. In order to keep his strong hold over his craft, Asim took multiple short courses and workshops including one from the New York Film Academy. Asim has made his mark as a director in worlds other than advertising films and music videos. He filmed and directed the famous last concert performed by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan before his death in 1997 called “Pakistan 4 U concert” for Channel V in Karachi. The concert was televised internationally, marking the first ever Pakistani music production which was broadcasted beyond the subcontinent. Following that, Asim filmed the concert performed by Junoon at the Central Park, New York, known as “A tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan – Junoon live at Central Park”. He has directed the 2nd Lux Style awards show in 2003, dubbed as one of the most prestigious award show events in the country. He has also directed a short documentary about Kathak dance called “Raqsaan” showcasing the talent of Pakistani classical dancer Fasih ur Rehman. Asim has received numerous awards including the LSA award for the best music video director, 2004, for his music video for the hit single “Mahi Ve” by Faakhir. As recognition for his varied experience in 2008 he was inducted as part of the board of studies for the communication design department at the Indus Valley School of Arts and Architecture, Karachi as an external board member. In 2013 , Asim released his first telefilm “Behad” which he directed for Momina Duraid Productions. The film was an excersise for him to learn the craft of telling a longer narrative.the film was critically acclaimed and was well received by the masses. He believes that these varied experiences with different genres of filmmaking have enriched his talent as a filmmaker and would help him in realizing his dream of making his name in the world of feature film making soon.
